It must have given a similar reaction to when they attempt to go into the crater. And it was the queen?

I am just being cautious, they have been searching for scapegoats to arrest here. It would give them access to Summoned in their prison cells again, away from the rest of us.

[ Were it anything else, Geralt would say Thorne could easily be summoning folk and using them up without ever releasing them into the castle. Who would know? But the Horizon is different. To form such a connection to the Singularity, a Summoned must interact with the others. Even bringing them to the crater would cause them to enter for weeks. They would be noticed.

Even so. There's a reason the Queen had kept it quiet. Why she had captured him in private. Oversaw it personally. He has not forgotten what Kylo once told him, shortly after he escaped a second time.

The war has changed much, though. What does her support look like now? He is more than aware, what people are willing to turn a blind eye to when soldiers are marching. More so than even in times of peace. ]

Not many of us remain who know of this.

You are the only person I intended on asking. They are searching to find out if someone here didn't follow the instructions to protect Yennefer in Nocwich. If they find someone, they can no doubt do whatever they like with them under the guise of them being a traitor.

[ That's not meant to be callous, though maybe it sounds as such. Only that if Thorne wants to arrest the Summoned, he can't do shit about it from miles away. ]

If the war escalates,
fewer excuses are needed.

Have the Free Cities indicated to any of you they want your assistance in the war? I'm baffled as to why it hasn't come up here with how closely they control us.

Army isn't subtle about it.
They've yet to enforce our participation.

I suppose it could be they don't know if you'd fight back. Or any of us would. But it seems very strange that they would bring all of us here and then do nothing about it from there. The things they have requested from us are voluntary, outside of being forced to go to Luna.

They can't control our access to the Horizon.
Forced or otherwise.
Even imprisoned, we can enter.

I'd be more concerned about what happens,
When they realize they can't control us anywhere.

Humans fear most their own creations.

[ He almost replies 'speaking from experience?' but that really goes without saying. Geralt's a witcher. ]

And that may have been one of the reasons they experimented on her in the first place. Access to the Singularity, access to the Horizon. Even if it failed then, they could try again if they thought they'd do it better this time.

The Thorne Summoned are very scattered. We have no unity and fear permeates every corner of it. I am concerned they may well be able to control some of us.

Hardly unified elsewhere.

And unity does not equate trustworthiness.
You mages have always been united under the Brotherhood.
Seemingly.

The Brotherhood is not the best example, but we are unified when we must be. I am hoping we can avoid the corrupt angle here. We only have twenty or so people, a small number.

We have a few young people here who I would rather not see the brunt of the royal paranoia. Those of us who are much older know better.

[ It's not the Brotherhood's unity that's in question. It is the things they choose to do in its name. But Geralt does not trust groups, as a whole. That's reserved for the rare individual. ]

I'm talking about unity among a group, I'm not saying whether we are alike outside of that.
